About Bong Perez
Teody Boylie "Bong" Perez is a distinguished artist and educator who has received numerous accolades for his exceptional work. In 2016, he was honored with the Datu Bago Award, the highest recognition bestowed by Davao City to its residents.
Bong's impressive academic background includes a Doctoral Program in Plastic Expression from Kyushu Sangyo University, Japan, which he completed in March 2005, and a Master's in Art Education from Saga University, Japan, which he earned in 2002. He also holds a BFA in painting from Ford Academy of the Arts in Davao City, which he obtained in 1991. Currently, he is a professor at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of the Philippines Mindanao.
Throughout his career, Bong has been the recipient of several scholarships, including the Bachus Memorial Scholarship (1987-1988), Davao Scholarship Trust Foundation (1988-1991), and Japanese Government Scholarship-MONBUSHO (1998-2005). He has also won numerous awards and recognitions, including four first-prize wins in international art competitions and the Grand Prize Winner (Magnanimity Category) in the Philippine Quincentennial National Art Competition 2021.
Bong has exhibited his work in 15 solo exhibitions and participated in over 22 group shows, both locally and internationally. He has also designed book covers, illustrated children's books, and been featured in various publications, including newsletters and university magazines in Japan.
Bong's preferred media are oil and acrylic, and his subjects often include landscapes, ethnic culture, and people in urban areas. His artwork can be found in private collections in several countries, including the Philippines, Canada, Germany, France, London, the USA, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Japan.
